Halloween… it brings out the kid in me! For as long as I can remember, I loved dressing up and getting into full character. (That’s me on the right with my middle sister as a cowgirl). Over the years, I have been every character from a nurse, cheerleader, Twister Game, Vegas Show girl, Flapper Girl, Witch, Nerd, or you can name it!
As a child, I suspect part of my anticipation for Halloween is that I always have had and still do have an insatiable sweet tooth. I didn’t care what got deposited, just as long as by night’s end, my bag was full of the sweet stuff! Baby Ruth, Butterfingers, 3 Musketeers, Nestle Crunch, Snickers- just bring it!!!
I recall one particularly terrible Halloween, I must have been about 5 years old. After spending a long treacherous night walking through leaves, rain (it’s fall in Seattle) and fighting nature’s elements, I had filled the pillow case my mom had given me for treats. (Ghetto, I know! This was long before designer Trick or Treat bags and I guess, we were fresh out of paper ones from the grocery store.) As we rounded our way back to our neighbor’s station wagon, three teen-age boys grabbed the pillow case from my hand and took off running. Ed Singler, my best friend’s father turned that 1969 wagon around like it was a Ferrarri and chased the crooks down returning my bag or treats or what was left of them.
That’s why this video clip from the Jimmy Kimmel Live always makes me laugh! Looks like I’m not the only one with a sweet tooth!
Enjoy and get ready for some Trick or Treats everyone! And remind the kids to hold on to their bag!
