We're Never Too Far From Home

We never forget from where we came.  There are certain triggers which are indelibly embedded in our being, which shape the who, what, and where we end up in life.

As I arrived in my sister Tracie's home in Cologne, Germany tens of thousands of miles away from "home",  I somehow felt right at home.  Familiar sites, scents, photos, artifacts, and mememtos from our childhood were in every nook and cranny.  We were always raised to know, that 'the eyes eat too'  and as soon I entered my sister's posh townhome on the Friesenstrasse, Cologne's most popping street in the heart of the city, my eyes feasted and my optical palate was beyond satisfied.

From the top floor dedicated to our musical roots, with photos of Daddy with his band circa the 1960's,  and Mama in the local papers as SeaFair Queen, and various reminders of our travels over the years, to the 2nd floor pink bathroom with photos of aunts, uncles and cousins, to the dining room with a wall adorned menus from Tracie's global travels to the lower floor master bedroom with eclectic purses hanging on a wall (including Mama's vintage handbags) and precious artifacts from our childhood.

But the biggest reminder that we are never too far from home was when I snapped this photo of Taryn in Auntie Tracie's Mini Cooper and noted the custom license plate 3306.  And that ladies and gentlemen is where it all began for us menopausebarbees: 3306 is the address number of the home we grew up in  in Seattle, Washington.

As Tracie likes to say- no matter if she is in Cologne or where her heart will "Rome" 3306 is where we call home.

I will close with a toast Brett and Taryn give Auntie Tracie- bravo to my sister 29 years later for making a life and a home- so far from home!

"Mmm Mmm it's so good, it's so tasty Prost Prost to Auntie Tracie!"
