When my guy suggested a trip to Napa to celebrate my birthday, he was surprised to learn I had never been to this quaint, premiere wine region. Over the years, I have heard the historical growth of this Valley, and I must attest, it was indeed a wonderful getaway!
We stayed at the new hotel, Las Alcobas, which I highly recommend- if only for the heated toilet seats! http://www.lasalcobasnapavalley.com/
The hotel sat adjacent to the Beringer Wines, where I learned they are the second oldest winery in Napa. Dating back to 1876, these visionary brothers, were amongst the first to start tours.
Tours… pace yourself! After we visited some of our favorites, Rombauer and Peju, I gained a true appreciation for the intensity of the process. (Hats off to my peeps, Stacy and Greg Lill who make it look so effortless.) It was a sweltering few days with the heat wave hitting well above 105 degrees, as we walked along the bountiful vines. I prefer red wines, and while I sipped responsibly, I truly learned to pace myself, especially in the heatwave.
There are numerous dining options, and we were fortunate to enjoy a delicious meal with dear friends and Napa transplants, Marta & Lucio at Charter Oak. We also dined at Archetype where now, in addition to working off the caloric wine intake, I’m also adding an extra mile for the savory donuts from dessert.
Napa has so much to offer, as we noted on a bike ride through the streets. Charming Bed & Breakfasts, more than 400 Wineries, sun shine, great spas, shopping, and more! Just remember when you go pace yourself – it is indeed, a trip to sip!
