The Power of Giving

The power of giving.

The only thing that can feel better than watching someone do something for someone else is doing something for someone else yourself. With that being said, Stacy Lill must be feeling pretty good.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend the Opportunity for Success Luncheon, sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank and O Wines (O as in OPPORTUNITY). Stacy is the founder and formal ambassador of the O Wines, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates. Stacy hosted this first time event and sixty of her friends, acquaintances and fellow business community members came to support her. And support her they did!

The purpose of the event was to raise money and awareness for women who have the mental means but lack the funds to attain a college education. Helping them achieve this goal is Stacy’s passion, she’s been involved with this scholarship program since 2007. And her endowments are not solely financial, she is truly a mentor, a friend and someone for her charges to emulate as she lends tender loving care to the young women whose paths she has crossed.

The meeting was emceed by Ms. Patti Payne from the Puget Sound Business Journal. After being welcomed by sponsor Mr. Maarco Abbruzzese from the Wells Fargo Bank, Ms. Yolanda Watson- Spiva, President and CEO of the College Success Foundation expressed her thanks for everyone’s participation. After Stacy’s speech, we had two success stories; two young women whose lives have been changed because of this admirable program: Angel Thalhofer and Barbara Medina. Both of these young women have been afforded the opportunity to go to college because of Stacy and those who have donated to this cause. Both of these young women gave heart moving stories, and something Barbara said resonates in my mind and I hope it will in yours: “What if the cure for cancer is in the mind of someone who can’t afford to study?”

Think about that for a moment. . .

My sister Dana then took the mic and encouraged everyone to dig deep into their pockets and give generously, stating: “ I love Prada and Gucci as much as all of you do, but just because we’re wearing it on our asses does not make it an asset. It’s not the designer bags that we carry, it’s carrying a much greater value, knowing we are making a difference.” Well said Dani.

The goal of the day was to raise money to fund one college student for four years.
By the time the donations had been tallied, more than $45,000.00 had been raised, a sum much more than what Stacy had hoped to reach. So much more in fact, that now she finds that she is just $3500.00 shy of supporting two students! This is huge!

We menopausebarbees are asking you to support this cause. We’re almost there. If you can make a donation please do. Here is the link to make a donation to the O Wines scholarship.  https://www.collegesuccessfoundation.org/national/scholarships/owines/donate

We truly appreciate your support!

Bravo Stacy!
