The Morning After

The Morning After

Aah…it’s the morning after Valentine’s Day.

Did anybody wake up with a love hangover? I didn’t complete that sentence. I meant to say, did anybody wake up with a love hangover in the arms of the realest love you’ve ever known?

You know, the kind Diana Ross sings about in her hit song, Love Hangover?

“Ooh, I don’t need no cure
I don’t need no cure
I don’t need no cure
Sweet lovin’
Sweet, sweet love
Sweet, sweet love
Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet love.”

Did you and your Valentine present each other with “all of me loves all of you treats”? You know, flowers, pink engraved candied hearts, chocolate cravings crates, special sparklers, a customized, monogrammed or personalized something? (It is kind of a commercial celebration of romance–but that’s okay, everybody loves treats.)

And was your Valentine celebration romantic…passionate and in a…cell phone free zone?

Or–did anybody wake up this morning hearing the lyrics of BB King’s, “The Thrill is Gone” in the corner of their minds? Especially that last stanza:

You know I’m free, free now baby
I’m free from your spell
Oh, I’m free, free, free now
I’m free from your spell
And now that’s it’s all over
All I can do is wish you well

Well if you woke up feeling disappointed, trust me–sh*t happens. Don’t be down about it. Life goes on.

You know, it’s 2018 and if if Cupid didn’t come through for you, there’s always Tinder.

But wait! You still have another option: Remember that Stephen Stills song, Love the One You’re With, especially that part:

Love the one you’re with.
Love the one you’re with.
Love the one you’re with.

The thing is, that “one” just might be you. I know I’ve been the “one” for me since I divorced. For me, it’s not a matter of high hopes, but rather a matter of expectations and choice.

I know in this day and age, love don’t come easy, so to those of you may have awoken today feeling a bit melancholy, I want you to get up and go take a look in the mirror and repeat after me: “All of me loves all of you.” Say it a couple of times. Say it until you smile. Feel good.

And don’t forget–You’ve ALWAYS got someone to love.
