Prom Time! How Can You Say No to this Face???

It’s Prom Time Again!  So, I’m re-posting – enjoy!

It’s Prom Time… the last hurrah for Seniors graduating from high-school. The limos, fancy ball gowns, tux rentals, fine dining, photos, and the dance! The average prom this year will cost a whopping $1,000!
The way I see it, things have changed significantly since I was in school. First off, you need a personal loan to finance the evening. At my first Prom, circa the mid 1980s, I wore my sister and co-blogger, Tracie’s first wedding dress. This dress is not to be confused with her 2nd dress she wore to her 2nd marriage, a garish lavender ensemble. No this was her first wedding dress, mocked after a Valentino, with long flowing white organza ruching details. The dress had more fabric than Liberace’s curtains. I looked so bouffant in this photo, my ego won’t allow me to post it. I always give one up for a laugh, but seriously, this photo should have been destroyed. Needless to say, at the time, I thought I was red carpet ready as my date and I pulled away in my daddy’s custom Cadillac!
All of these thoughts were with me as my son prepares for his final Senior Prom, I recall last year’s Jr./ Senior gala. While meeting and greeting the kids for pre function photos, my first thought when looking at girl after girl was “WHERE in the HELL is the rest of your dress?” Every last one had on a mini with spiked heels that made the dress look even shorter!
Another noted change: what’s with all this group date stuff? My date took me along with my bouffant hair, dress and makeup alone to Canlis, which is still considered Seattle’s most elegant restaurant. These kids nowadays all pile into a car and head for group dinners.
The one major change which I see and I find rewarding is the unique efforts put into asking a prom date out. Last year, my son received a scrambled puzzle he had to put together and when the pieces were finally assembled the puzzle read “Tolo?” The Tolo was for the Christmas Ball where the girl asks the boy.
Creativity is in action with balloons, bouquets of roses and other enticing treats decorating lockers of all high schools this month as high school seniors pop the big question!
So with the clock ticking, my son procrastinating, and the poor dateless girls on the line, we had to come up with a clever, unique, inspiring “ask.”
Below is what we posted on his date’s locker and after she figured out who the handsome tyke was, the answer was YES!
