Headlines Hysteria

Yesterday, I received a text from a tenant in a 20 unit building. He asked about ventilation in the apartment and if the air was pulled from within the building or pulled from outside. I was uncertain as to why he was asking about the mechanics of this 1964 constructed building, until he came clear and asked if The Covid-19 could be passed through the units. As I attempted to assuage his anxiety, after two deaths in my home state of Washington, I am recognizing the panic is real. As I travel frequently, I am noticing the masked passengers and the reluctance to shake strangers hands. I recall when the AIDS epidemic broke out and the message was clear- we need research not hysteria. I was visiting with a Chinese girlfriend who said she definitely feels the discomfort and how strangers now keep a distance from her. As we all learned from the 1990’s, AIDS was not a gay disease and ignorance must cease. This global concern is affecting us all. Conferences are being cancelled, and trips postponed indefinitely. The car backup lines to Costco and other grocery outlets are jammed packed. General necessities such as bottled water and now health masks are scarce. As the hysteria runs high, the supplies run low. I recently saw these posts and they made me chuckle, but they are sad truths about our reality. So, today, I ask – how has the Corona Virus affected your travel and life plans?
