Ralph Waldo Emerson’s statement resonates today as we celebrate you, my son, on your 21st year.
October 3, 1993, at 8:10 pm, our lives were forever changed when the doctors handed me, a black woman a swaddled snow white, blonde hair, blue eyed tyke. “Wrong baby?” The doctor assured us you were ours, so we brought you home. As the years flew by and you started excelling in all you did, with numerous awards in academics, athletics, leadership in community building, attending the Global Young Leader’s Conference and President Obama’s Inauguration and taking on the Red Bull European challenge, and becoming a leader in your fraternity, and and and -your dad and I still question if we got the right kid- just kidding!
Seriously son, I always tell you, I don’t call you son, cause you shine, but the reality is you do! You have provided this family with so much pride, we could burst! You have become our leader during trying times, you are our voice of reason. You are an incredible example for your little sister and peers. You are handsome, funny, smart, dedicated, loyal and some of the sweetest fruit on our family tree.
I’ll drink to that! Now let’s get this party started~
I love you madly,
